Wiieexkrs Cavai.rt. Wc have be fore us a flag of a new and beautiful device, made by some ladies of Mobile for the battle flag of Gen. Wheelers cavalry, attached to the army of the Mississippi. It is cut in the shape of a swallows tail, one-half blue, the' other yellow, with a bar of white cutting it diagonally and displaying eleven blue stars. The whole is bound with red.

The flag goes to Murfreesboro in a a day or two in charge of one of Gen. Wheelers aids, and will soon be given to the battle and the breeze for it is a part of the daily business of Wheeler's cavalry to fight the enemy. But. thank Heaven, there is not the remotest probability that the South can be made to succumb to the race of soulless brigands, even though resistance should involve the incalculable horrors attendant upon the utter and complete subjugation of her people. Their resolution to persevere is invincibly fixed.

They have set their faces like flints towards the goal of Independence, and in this direction they will keep the step of warriors. no matter what may be the obstacles that oppose them. Already a river of blood has been poured out in defense of our liberty und firesides, yet our people have not wavered in the high and holy resolve to be free. Our land has been desolated, and our fields laid waste, while many a loved one a gory shroud, whose death entails wretchedness too deep and dark for tongue or pen to describe yet. our widowed soldier: wive and the orphans made by this war, are our beet patriots, and by their prayers and tears will never cease to importune the avenging wrath of Heaven upon the heads of our oppressors.

ARE THERE TRAITORS IN OUR MIDST Fernando Wood is represented by the New York World as having made the following declaration at a war meeting in that city, on the night of the 20th ultimo Mr. Wood said he had received information and communicated it to the Government, that under certain circumstances, the South was ready to return, aye, from leading statesmen of the South, Men of position and Influence in the Southern Confederacy had expressed a desire to return under a Democratic rule; the past to bo forgotten, the public debt on both sides to be provided for. and they are willing to let by-gones be bygones, if the North would, and the Union once again be restored. (Terrific cheers followed, lasting several minutes. The Richmond Whig, commenting upon the above paragraph, says that Mr.

Wood's Information is either entirely false as to what certain leading statesmen have said, or else he has been egregiously imposed upon as to their real sentiments. The idea of a return to the Union, tinder any circumstances it, however, too utterly absurd to require further comment. Baltimore papers, in alluding to Woods speech. The indiscriminate robbery citizens is a thing of almost daily occurrence, which is winked at by the officers in command.
