Heavy Skirmishing near Hanover C. H. General Engagement near at hand! Kiciimond, May 27. The following despatch was received this morning by Gov. Letcher: "Staunton, May 2T.

On Friday the Federals at Front Royal were routed and ono section of artillery, in addition to many prisoners, captured. On Saturday Ranks' main column whilst retreating from Strasburg to Winchester, was pierced in the renr, part retreating towards Strasburg. On Sunday the other part was routed at this place. At last accounts Brig. Gen.

George W. Stewart was pursuing tho cavalry and artillery, and capturing fugitives. A large amount of medical, ordnance, and other stores have fallen intoour hanls. Signed T. J.
