The pig iron, rolled iron, and cotton ties made at Brierlleld have taken first premiums at fairs. Heavy artillery has been mado or the Iron and found to be of a superior quality. Brierlleld Iron now commands in the western markets the highest prices paid, and is used for car wheels, boilers, und telegraph wire. The property would afford many advantages for making, In addition to the manufacture of Iron, car wheels, cotton ties, railroad cars, wagons, carts, and other plantation implements.

The country abounds In yellow pine and other timber of a valuable quality; and saw mills in the neighborhood are numerous. Wymy, of Jacksonville, late general southern agent of the Selma, Rome and Dalton railroad, who has many friends and acquaintances here, has been appoint ed general southern agent of the Atlanta Air-Line Tub best musical talent of Selma is re hearsing for a concert to be given at Gill-man's Hall nest week for the purpose of paying the debt incurred by the committee under whose auspices the course of lectures here this season has been given. Tiieke is much dissatisfaction in many quarters with the last distribution of the Louisville Library Association, and the managers are flatly accused of dishonesty. With many of the gentlemen connected with that distribution wo have a personal acquaintance that justifies us in repelling all such imputations as unjust and utterly unwarranted. We know them to be incapable of dishonesty themselves, and incapable of sanctioning dishonesty in others and It affords us pleasure to be able to assure our readers that the drawing was fairly conducted and the prizes fairly distributed. The second annual shooting festival of the Selma Schuctzen Verein will be held at the Fair grounds in this city the 11th 2th and 18th of May.

The Committee of Arrangemeut desires to acquaint the public with the fact, that subscription lists have been laid out at E. Gillman's confectionery store, J. A. Vogle's segnr store, George E. Keipp's restaurant, B.

Jacob's gunstore, Henry Cassin's whole sale liquor house, and Aicardi's bar-room, where every one interested in the success of the festival is invited to subscribe suitable articles, or any amount of money, to be de voted to securing prizes for the successful marksmen. The committees are constituted as fol lows On finance, E. Gillman and J. A. Yogle on arrangement of Fair Grounds, B.

Schuster; on restaurant and bar, Geo. E. Keipp; and on correspondence and printing, L. Mueller. It is confidently expected that the exer tions of the committee to make this year's festival as successful as last year, will meet the hearty co-operation of every citizen of Selma.

Mr, O'Dwyer was shot and badly woun ded in Montgomery the other day. The "Alabama Manual'' has been re vised for 1R75, and a new edition has been issued. The truck and axe company of Troy has received new uniforms. The Pike county medical association Will have a meeting at Troy tho 27th. G.

B. Clark and J. Clark havo re moved from Henry county to Troy. Henry Williams, who removed to Pike couutv a few months ago, committed suicide a few days ago. W.

William McCarroll and daughter have gone from Scottsboro to East Tennessee. Mrs, M. P. Brown of Scottsboro has been dangerously sick. Mrs Frances Decs, near Vernon, San- ford county, has been very ill.

There was a destructive tornado around Hazle Groen, Madison county, the lfith. James Dickey has been appointed census taker for Madison county. The Tuskegee News has live colums of tax sales advertisements, Col, Joseph Hodgson has been visiting Montgomery. John Robertson has been unpointed Census-taker for Lowndes, The residence on tho Pink Williams place near Litohatchio was burned recently. The store ot Miss Brown at Fort Deposit was burglariously entered and robbed of $500 worth of goods.
